Natural Light Retouching Graphic Design Course 2023

Enhancing the attractiveness and caliber of portrait images requires retouching. Maintaining the real, organic look while gradually improving the subject’s features is essential when working with natural light portraits. This tutorial will walk you through the steps of retouching a natural-light portrait in Photoshop.

Opening the portrait image in Photoshop is the first step in making basic adjustments. To create a balanced and aesthetically acceptable overall appearance, start with fundamental adjustments like exposure, contrast, and white balance. To modify without causing damage, use adjustment layers.

Focus on retouching the subject’s skin while preserving a natural appearance. Any blemishes, stains, or flaws can be eliminated with the Healing Brush or Clone Stamp tools. Avoid over-retouching and keep the texture and color intact.

Dodge and Burn: The Dodge and Burn technique can be used to give the portrait depth and dimension. distinct layers with the Overlay blend mode created. To softly deepen shadows (burn) and brighten highlights (dodge), use a delicate brush with low opacity. This method aids in face shaping and accentuates the subject’s features.

Improve Eyes and Teeth: Pay attention to the eyes and teeth to highlight their inherent attractiveness. To make the whites of the eyes appear brighter and more vibrant, use the Dodge tool with a gentle brush on a new layer. To make your teeth appear whiter and cleaner, use the Sponge tool in desaturation mode to remove any yellow stains.

To obtain a beautiful and coherent appearance, correct the color tones in the photograph. To enhance the overall color balance, correct any undesired color casts, and fine-tune the skin tones, use selective color changes. Make sure the skin tones remain true to the subject’s original skin tone.

Enhance elements: Use sharpening techniques to highlight the smaller elements in the photograph. Apply the High Pass filter after duplicating the background layer. To highlight the details while avoiding the introduction of artifacts, change the layer’s blending mode to Overlay or Soft Light. To alter the sharpening, change the layer’s opacity.

Add any essential finishing touches to finish the retouching process. To improve the mood of the portrait generally, this may entail altering the brightness and contrast overall, adding a gentle glow, or applying a faint vignette. Keep in mind to preserve the image’s organic and natural appearance throughout the process.

Once you are happy with the retouching, save the file in a suitable format, such as JPEG or TIFF, and then export it. If the photograph will be used online, reduce the file size without sacrificing quality.
